Devices which measure electricity consumption.

solar energy system design
The best possible way to measure your electrical consumption is the measure what you actually use. This page has information about the types of devices available.
PLUG IN DEVICES
Plug in energy monitors can be used to measure how many watts are being consumed by a device. You simply plug them into a plug socket and then plug the device into the monitor. They often have a memory facility where you can enter the price you pay per kWh so you can easilly calculate the cost of the electricity used over a period of time. You can buy them online at Amazon. Here are some links depending on which country you are in.

WIRELESS DEVICES
Wireless devices normally measure the entire output of the house and they can function as an alternative electricty meter.
The transmitter is connected to a ring which is placed around a wire. The wire is usually the one which carried all of the electricty for the whole house. The ring is capable of measuring the flow of electricty using an electromagnetic sensor. This information is transmitted to a control panel display which can be placed in a convenient location in the house. The control panel display has a memory and can show you the kWh consumption per day, per month, per year etc. Most of these devices can also show you the amount of Co2 which would be released to generate this amount of electricty and the cost. This type of device can be very useful to calculate the amount of electrity you are using before you install an alternative energy system. You can buy them online at Amazon.
